January
I started the course with making and personalizing my portfolio, creating a map, and learned about diseases, history of microbiology, prokaryotes, viruses, etc. I also did a fun activity with microscopic images!

February

Before I knew it, I was 1 month into the course! In this month I started and finished up my vacation travel plan to Japan, and did fun activities about fungi and extremophiles, and got started on the Case study assignment. I also learned about microbial growth and microbes in food!

March
March started with a deep-dive into the CDC website, analyzing different outbreaks! After that, I got to work on a case study about "Philippine Measles Crisis: Shielding the Archipelago" and learned a lot through that research. I ended the month by finding different herbs in my area and documenting them!
April

In April, everything was so hectic and I was nearing the end of the semester! We got started on the challenge project which was on "Fortify Our Defenses: Combat Antimicrobial Resistance" and putting together the presentation was very fun!
BIO

Hello, my name is Aayesha Islam and I am a Computer Science major. I must say that my knowledge of Microbio is very little and I want to definitely learn more. One of the reasons I am curious about it is because my favorite teacher back in high school was a Microbio major, and my aunt also majored in it and teaches it. My personal experiences with diseases have been when me and my family got COVID. My background is that I was born in New Jersey but I was raised in Bangladesh, and I came back to the US in 2021 with my family for college. When my family got COVID, it was scary, my youngest sister got it from her middle school. I have travelled to a decent number of places other than Bangladesh, such as Thailand, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Canada, and in the US I have been to Maryland, New York, New Jersey, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, etc to name a few! The UNESCO site I want to note is the Statue of Liberty!
